The idea behind Osheru began long before the company itself.
Drs. Patricia and Knute Buehler met in medical school in 1987 and shared a fascination with medicine, innovation and history. During a museum visit, they encountered an ancient Egyptian technique that used compression to remove excess eyelid skin without traditional surgical methods.
For Dr. Patty Buehler, an ophthalmic surgeon who had spent years performing traditional eyelid procedures, the concept sparked a question:
Could the principle of compression be reimagined using modern medical technology?
Patty and Knute began developing a new approach, collaborating with medical and engineering experts and ultimately receiving their first patent in 2014.
The idea stayed with them.
In 2020, they returned to it with new focus. Early prototypes were developed and refined in their kitchen before progressing to cadaver labs and eventually clinical use.
In 2021, Osheru was officially founded in Bend, Oregon.

A New Category of Eyelid Rejuvenation
Minimally Invasive Lid Treatment, or MILT, is the treatment category pioneered by Osheru to provide a modern alternative to traditional eyelid surgery.
At the heart of MILT is Compression Skin Contouring (CoCo™) — Osheru's innovative method for removing excess skin while minimizing many of the things patients associate with traditional surgery.
CoCo™ compresses the skin for hemostasis, fuses the skin to allow for adhesive closure, and enables precise removal of excess tissue.
The result is an approach designed around what matters to patients today: meaningful improvement, natural-looking results and a faster return to everyday life.
Meet Ziplyft™
Ziplyft™ is Osheru's first application of MILT and CoCo™ technology — a minimally invasive upper eyelid lift designed to make eyelid rejuvenation simpler for both patients and providers.
Performed in a physician's office under local anesthetic, Ziplyft removes excess upper eyelid skin in less than 15 minutes with no IV sedation, no cautery and no sutures.
Instead of stitches, the treatment area is sealed with tissue adhesive, helping create a simpler recovery with minimal bruising and swelling.
For patients, that means real, visible improvement without the traditional surgical experience — and most are event-ready within 7–10 days.
From an Idea to a New Treatment Category
What started as a new way to think about upper eyelid surgery has grown into something bigger.
Osheru developed Compression Skin Contouring (CoCo™) as the method behind its new Minimally Invasive Lid Treatment category.
Ziplyft™ became the first application.
In 2022, Osheru won the early-stage company award at the Bend Venture Conference. In 2023, the company earned the top prize at the ASCRS Eyecelerator Winning Pitch Competition and returned in 2024 to win the People's Choice Award.
By 2025, physicians outside of Osheru's founder began performing Ziplyft procedures on their own patients.
Today, trained physicians are using Ziplyft to deliver a new kind of upper eyelid rejuvenation — one designed around precision, efficiency, rapid recovery and naturally refreshed results.

Osheru was founded with a mission to make meaningful eyelid rejuvenation available to more people and more practices.

The Meaning Behind Osheru
The name Osheru draws from the Eye of Horus in ancient Egyptian culture.
Horus' left eye was damaged and later restored, becoming a symbol of healing and regeneration.
It's a fitting name for a company whose own story began with ancient medicine — and whose focus is firmly on the future.
