“I’ve been an eye surgeon for 25 years and have performed thousands of eye and eyelid surgeries, as well as trained and supervised surgeons in the US and overseas. One of my specialties is eyelid lift, a surgery that removes unwanted and excess upper eyelid skin, resulting in improved peripheral vision and appearance. Patients routinely have a 25% improvement in their side vision and look younger and more revitalized. As a result of my experience and innovative insight, I have developed a novel medical device that markedly simplifies and improves this procedure. In 2021 we founded a company Osheru to develop and commercialize the Ziplyft™ device. In addition to this work, I am a co-owner and managing partner of InFocus Eyecare, a six-provider 35-employee specialty medical practice with revenues of $5M. I am a founding partner and part owner of the Bend Surgery Center, a 450-employee facility.”

Due to the limitations and inaccuracies of state-of-the-art instrumentation, I experimented with traditional knee replacement technologies, I became one of the primary inventors of computer-assisted knee replacement, and I trained thousands of surgeons domestically and internationally in these new techniques.

I am currently the Chief Operating Officer of Osheru LLC and Emeritus Partner at the Center for Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Care & Research. During my tenure as Managing Partner of the Center for Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Care & Research I provided strategic vision and leadership to grow the practice from 8 providers to 32, the practice continues to thrive today, with over $80M in annual revenue and 44 providers. In addition to my research and surgical experience, I have also been elected for two terms in the Oregon legislature where I was on the House Healthcare committee, authoring legislation on multiple policy issues.”

Steve Everly is a senior commercial executive with more than 20 years of experience leading high-performing sales organizations and driving growth across the ophthalmic and surgical device markets. He has held national and North American leadership roles at RxSight, Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision, Abbott, and AMO, consistently delivering above-plan results and guiding major product launches. Steve brings deep expertise in commercial strategy, organizational scale-up, and cross-functional leadership.

John Muri is a seasoned mechanical engineer and founder of Muri Design LLC, bringing over three decades of experience in medical device innovation and product development. With a background in mechanical engineering from the Budapest Technical University of Hungary and early career roles at Alcon Laboratories and Birtcher Medical Systems, John has since led Muri Design in consulting for top-tier clients across the medical industry. He holds over 40 issued U.S. patents and has played a pivotal role in the design of groundbreaking surgical technologies, including ophthalmic systems, electrosurgical devices, and vascular catheters. Known for his expertise in fluidics, designs for injection molding, medical disposables, manufacturing process development, John manages projects from concept through commercialization, delivering precision-engineered solutions that enhance surgical outcomes and manufacturing efficiency.

Matt Hoskins is an entrepreneur and product designer with 30 years of experience developing medical devices. Matt began his career at Fogarty Engineering developing minimally-invasive cardiovascular and urologic devices. As a medical device design consultant, he engineered a range of physician-inspired devices for Baxter Healthcare and American Medical Systems. As Vice-President of R&D at DesChutes Medical Products, Matt helped bring forward the award-winning “Myself,” the first FDA OTC-approved pelvic muscle biofeedback device, later purchased by Sunbeam. In 2015, Matt launched Mazama Designs, a Bend-based developer and manufacturer of sports hydration systems. Mazama’s valve and reservoir designs have been featured in hydration systems by Osprey, Gregory, Hydropak and others. Matt holds over 2 dozen patents in the medical and outdoor equipment sectors.

Lauren Contursi serves as Quality Systems Officer at Osheru. In this role, Lauren oversees quality for the company. Lauren partners with business groups to ensure end-to-end quality and reliability from development through manufacturing, distribution, and end-customer use. She is responsible for driving the strategic direction for quality programs through the implementation of policy and standards across Osheru. Lauren has an extensive background in medical device product quality and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining Osheru, Lauren was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Systems at Applied Medical where she drove strategies to meet global and regulatory compliance requirements in post-market surveillance and quality systems. She also served as the Alternate Industry Representative for FDA’s Device Good Manufacturing Practice Advisory Committee. Lauren received her bachelor’s degree in biological psychology from Duke University. She resides in Laguna Beach with her husband and three children.

Alyssa Pineau brings over eight years of experience in product development, supply chain, and manufacturing, having worked with companies such as Tesla, Fitbit, ZOLA Electric, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Alyssa has a strong track record in managing New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, overseeing the product development process from early concept through to mass production and successful product launch. At ERM, she specialized in sustainable supply chains and product stewardship. Her role at Thermo Fisher involved managing GMP manufacturing projects and process optimization. At ZOLA Electric, she led the development of off-grid solar energy products. At Fitbit, she improved manufacturing performance with advanced data systems, and at Tesla, she managed trials and prototype builds, aiding in the launch of new vehicle models.

Becky Weathers is the Technical Training Coordinator at Osheru. In this role, she provides expert on-site training and remote support to clinical and surgical staff, ensuring accuracy and proficiency using the Zipyft system. She oversees the training process, offering technical guidance and facilitating hands-on education. She also plays a key role in clinical research, gathering patient-focused data from surgical outcomes to support ongoing studies. With an extensive background in surgical and clinical assistance, Becky has worked across a wide range of sterile and clean procedures, particularly excelling in ophthalmic surgeries such as cataract, glaucoma, eyelid lift, corneal, and retinal cases.Beyond her technical expertise, Becky is a sought-after consultant on training standardization, office culture development, and technician efficiency. Known for her energy, positivity, and enthusiasm, she is a driving force behind the success of any training program.

Roxanne Piepenbrock is a seasoned supply chain and operations leader with over 15 years of experience in the medical device industry, supporting organizations from early-stage start-ups through scaled, regulated environments. Her background spans end-to-end supply chain operations, procurement, supplier management, and cross-functional coordination, with a strong track record of bringing structure, efficiency, and execution discipline to complex operations. Known for exceptional organization, judgment, and the ability to operate as a trusted partner to senior leadership, Roxanne combines strategic insight with hands-on operational expertise to support growth, scalability, and operational excellence.

Jim Parkin is a retired Deloitte & Touche partner and accounting executive-in-residence; brings audit, governance and financial leadership expertise.

Bruce Cleveland is a veteran operator, investor, and author who leads category design, positioning, and Market Engineering strategy.

Chris M. Calcaterra served as the Executive Vice President of Global Commercial Operations at Glaukos from April 2022. Before this role, he was the Chief Operating Officer from February 2017 to March 2022 and the Chief Commercial Officer from April 2008 to January 2017. With over 30 years of experience in the ophthalmic medical technology industry, Mr. Calcaterra brings extensive expertise in this area. Prior to joining Glaukos, he was Senior Vice President at Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. (acquired by Abbott Laboratories), overseeing the cataract business. Earlier in his career, Mr. Calcaterra held various vice president roles in sales and marketing at Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. and its predecessor surgical division at Allergan, Inc. He holds a B.S. from Miami University and an M.B.A. from Xavier University. Additionally, he was a board member of WaveTec Vision Systems, Inc. (acquired by Novartis).

Gary Berman is the CEO of Tavo Biotherapeutics, leading efforts to develop therapies for severe eye diseases. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare and biotechnology, he has a proven track record in scaling companies and raising over $250 million from top venture capital firms. His notable roles include COO & CFO at Geneo and executive leadership positions at greyspace, Equinox Ophthalmic, and Breathe Technologies. Berman also serves as an advisor to various biotech and medical tech companies, where he leverages his expertise to drive innovation and improve patient care.

Dr. I. Paul Singh, a Wisconsin native, is President of The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha, founded by his father in 1981. He completed his medical degree at Finch University, residency at Cook County Hospital, and a glaucoma fellowship at Duke University before returning to private practice in his hometown. An active researcher, Dr. Singh has published widely and leads a full-time research facility focused on glaucoma, cataracts, ocular surface disease, and retina. He has pioneered many industry firsts in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and laser-assisted cataract procedures. Recognized for excellence, he was named America’s Best Eye Doctor by Newsweek (2021–2023) and ranked among the nation’s top cataract surgeons.

Dr. Victoria is an expert in Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, specializing in aesthetic, functional, and reconstructive procedures for the face, eyelids, orbits, and lacrimal system. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York as chief resident and is Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Victoria further trained in Craniofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Miami Children’s Hospital and pursued an ASOPRS fellowship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, focusing on eyelid, orbital, and facial cosmetic surgeries. Since relocating to South Florida in 2014, she has been committed to underserved communities through medical missions in countries like India and Colombia. Dr. Victoria offers a range of personalized surgical and non-surgical treatments and is known for her thorough patient education.

Dr. Ristvedt is a board-certified eye surgeon with a distinguished ophthalmology legacy from her grandfather Lowell Gess and father Timothy Gess. Joining the Vance Thompson Vision team in 2018, she specializes in advanced cataract surgery, glaucoma care, and oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Ristvedt emphasizes patient involvement, tailoring treatment plans for the best restorative outcomes, and also offers a range of laser skin treatments to complement her surgical work. She completed her education at Westmont College and the Des Moines and Michigan State University Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, with residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Passionate about research, Dr. Ristvedt participates in clinical trials, speaks at national meetings, and contributes to ophthalmology journals.

Dr. Keenum is a skilled oculoplastic surgeon known for blending science and artistry in eye and face plastic surgery. He employs innovative techniques and advanced technology to deliver excellent patient care. Before joining Vance Thompson Vision, Dr. Keenum completed a two-year ASOPRS Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX, gaining extensive experience in eyelid and eye socket surgeries. He also leads Kalon Medical Spa in Sioux Falls, offering laser skin treatments that complement his surgical practice. Dr. Keenum holds degrees from Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and he completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Richard Roth is a highly accomplished Oculofacial plastic surgeon, renowned for his dual Board Certification in ophthalmology and plastic surgery, which distinguishes him as one of the few in the country with this expertise. Specializing in eyelid and facial surgery, he is a valued member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Dr. Roth also excels in non-surgical, minimally invasive treatments, including Botox®, facial fillers, and laser skin rejuvenation. After graduating with honors from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army, where he completed his internship and served as a Flight Surgeon, earning the title of US Army Aeromedical Flight Surgeon of the Year for his outstanding contributions.

Dr. Sumeet Jindal, MD, MBA, is a highly skilled surgeon specializing in occuloplastic and facial cosmetic surgery, as well as anterior segment surgery. He practices at NCO Eye Center and JIYA Facial Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Jindal earned his combined BS/MD/MBA from East Carolina University (ECU), completed his residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and pursued fellowship training in Orlando, Florida. A 3-degree graduate of MIT, Vernon believes in making big things happen. Upon graduation in 1973, he was one of the founders of Bain & Company, where he remained until his retirement in 2018. At Bain, he held numerous firm and office governance and practice roles, growing the company he helped start from 8 people in 1973 to over 15,000 today. Vernon’s primary focus was Telecommunications / Technology / Media, Aerospace / Defense, Consumer Products, and designing, founding, and driving the Bain’s Full Potential Practice, assisting enterprises in transforming themselves to achieve their full potential on all dimensions, financially and competitively, including wealth creation for the enterprise, its employees, leaders, and shareholders. Vernon has consulted on all inhabited continents in the World.

In addition to serving on the Osheru advisory board, Vernon has been a Director of publicly held Roxio, Napster, Abaxis, Orbis and Lingua Franca. He was also founding Chairman of Emmy award-winning Vobile, the company that saved the global Movie and TV industries, by halting content piracy.

In the not-for-profit world, Vernon served on MIT’s Advisory Boards and Committees of The MIT Corporation, and the Board of the School of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California, Davis. He also served on various not-for-profit boards in the San Francesco Bay Area.

In addition to serving on Osheru’s Advisory Board, Tom Beer serves as Chief Medical Officer, Multi-Cancer Early Detection at Exact Sciences Corporation. Prior to joining Exact Sciences, Dr. Beer was the Grover C. Bagby Endowed Chair for Prostate Cancer Research at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, where he led the Prostate Cancer Research Program. Dr. Beer also served as Deputy Director of the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer institute and the National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was previously the Chief Medical Officer for the Center for Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR), where he led clinical trials of multi-omic blood-based cancer early detection tests.

Dr. Beer continues to serve as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, where he treats men with prostate cancer. He has authored or co-authored more than 280 peer reviewed articles, including investigations of multi-cancer early detection as well as targeted therapies and immunotherapies in prostate cancer. Dr Beer’s research served as the basis for a global change in the standard of care for advanced prostate cancer.

Dr. Beer earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and his M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University and completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Beer and Drs. Buehler studied medicine together at Johns Hopkins and have known one another for the past 35 years.

A highly sought-after plastic surgeon specializing in facial plastic surgery, Dr. Gallagher is skilled in the technical aspects of facial cosmetic surgery, patient selection and care, and practice management. Having received training with renowned facelift pioneer, John Q Owsley MD, he ran a highly successful medical/surgical practice for over 20 years in Bend, Oregon up until his retirement in 2020. Gary has also served on the Cleft Lip Team locally and has participated in multiple international medical missions. He was a physician partner in Bend Surgery Center, LLC.

He is currently serving on the Tower Theater Foundation board of directors and the Osheru Board of Directors. When Gary is not lending his help and insightful perspective to the Central Oregon Community, you can find him rocking out with his Steely Dan cover band.

Rod Ray is an executive consultant and owner of Canyon Mountain Consulting, supporting companies that need strategic planning and operational excellence. Formerly, he was CEO of Bend Research (BRI), a technology development company providing innovations for the pharmaceutical, agricultural, energy, environmental and space industries. For more than three decades, BRI had an increasing focus on drug-delivery technology development for the pharmaceutical industry; Rod played a key technical and business roles in that initiative and its ground-breaking advances. Those achievements in the pharmaceutical arena resulted in BRI being purchased in 2014 by a large private equity company. It ultimately became part of Lonza, a Swiss pharmaceutical technology and manufacturing company.

Upon his retirement in 2014, Rod began developing and formalizing all the leadership lessons he’d learned into a body of knowledge for use in consulting and teaching courses in practical, useful leadership. In addition to serving on Osheru’s advisory board, he now serves as a board member for various pharmaceutical and technology companies, including NovaTech, EarthCruiser, Onboard Dynamics, and Element1. He also serves on the board of several non-profit and higher-education organizations such as Mosaic Medical and Oregon State University-Cascades.

Brian Bowman is an entrepreneur and mechanical engineer with 20 years of experience developing medical devices. In 2012, he co-founded Cor Medical Ventures, a medical device company that partners with physician inventors, start-ups and corporate partners to advance healthcare by bringing the next generation of devices to market. As Chief Technology Officer at Cor Medical Ventures, he has been responsible for the development of over 30 implant and instrument systems across many specialties in medicine including spine, orthopedics, neurosurgery, dental, wearables, women’s health, drug delivery and wound care.

Brian has invented and developed medical technologies that have been acquired by DePuy Synthes, Medtronic, Integra Life Sciences and Smith and Nephew. He also serves on the board of Avira Health, a company empowering mothers health through technology and Activas Orthopedics, a sports medicine company dedicated to improving patient outcomes for challenging sports injuries.

Born in Ontario, Canada and a Marylhurst University grad, Ric Tiplady has worked in the ophthalmic industry for over 35 years, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing ophthalmic education through his participation in clinical programs and professional symposia. Mr. Tiplady is also the founder and president of Eye Physician Network, a web-based resource for eye physicians. Before this, he served and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant.

Ric is an active participant in multiple medical mission trips, and he has served as secretary and treasurer of the board of Directors for the Hawaiian Eye Foundation. In 2012, he was presented the Vietnam Medal of Honor for Ophthalmology for his service to Vietnam’s medical education. In addition to being an Osheru Advisory Board Member, Ric currently serves as a board member and president of the Eye Mission of the Pacific (EMP), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that serves people of the Pacific suffering from vision loss. Owen Buehler is a software engineer with experience in digital marketing and healthcare technology. He currently works for Forward, which builds and operates next-generation, technology-enabled primary care clinics across 12 US states. As part of his role at Forward, he’s worked on electronic medical records, billing and accounting software, and clinical process automation. He also has experience in pharmaceutical bioavailability R&D through his work at Bend Research. Previously, he worked in paid search engine marketing at Groupon where his team was awarded several patents for their innovative approaches to real-time algorithmic ad bidding.
